Stimulates the nervous system by physically engaging the different branches of the vagus nerve and surrounding fascia to trigger the rapid release of oxytocin in the body.
Oxytocin: an important neurotransmitter within the brain. It affects parts of the brain that process and store trauma and parts of the body that boost the immune system.
Goal: allow the nervous system to travel through all three dominant circuits(Ventral, Sympathetic, and Dorsal) to regulate the nervous system and release incomplete cycles of trapped traumas. The release of oxytocin helps to build Vagal Tone, allowing the client to have more Ventral(calm/safe) dominance and baseline, to have smaller reactions to trauma and triggers in life. It can also help to boost the immune system overall.
The Work This is a hands on body work therapy that may or may not trigger a massive nervous system response. It all depends where your vagal tone is at when we start. Some clients may have massive emotional releasing first session, some have some seizing and muscle/nervous system twitching, and some just relax into rest/sleep.
The first session really helps to map out where you are at and assess vagal tone, density and response of fascia, etc. Then I will have a better idea of how to support you and what term of treatment plan we may want to take.
You will lie fully dressed on the massage table or a comfortable mat on the ground during the session. The therapist will press on certain areas of the body and hold these points to create the stimulation. The work is not painful.
What To Wear Dress comfortably. No jeans or heavy attire that aren’t easy to maneuver with. Yoga or workout clothes are best, or something loose fitting.
Time Sessions range from 1.5-2hrs depending on how the nervous system responds. We usually aim for at least 2 surges up and down the nervous system cascade. If time allows we may go for a third. Each time we travel up and down the ladder we are rebuilding vagal tone.
Aftercare This is trauma work. You may have an array of emotional and physical symptoms that may arise. As with any deep treatment, be gentle with yourself for the next 24/48hrs. I recommend lots of hydration, nourishing meals and decrease of nervous system stimulus. This is not a time to confront someone or write that email to your ex/boss/etc. This is where I encourage journaling and lots of rest. The work triggers neurological reprogramming which means that rest is best for integration.
The sessions will be 1.5-2hours in length. The rate is $170. I will remain open to working with sliding scale for those in need. Also if a client commits to multiple sessions I will create package deals to make it more affordable. I also do not wish for finances to be an impediment to getting the care you need. I will work with people on a sliding scale as needed.
Trauma is defined as an event or incident that causes distress and/or overwhelms the person from being able to cope. There are all sorts of traumas, and some register with us, and others live in our bodies on a more unconscious level. Symptoms can vary from person to person.
Our goal in this work is to help minimize the dominance of these feelings.
